Simultaneous interpretation means that the presentation given by the speakers is translated into another language in real time (simulteaneously). Special technical equipment is required for this mode of interpretation (interpreting booth, sound technology, receivers with headphones).

Simultaneous interpretation is normally used at multi-lingual conferences.

It is important to know that simultaneous interpretation is so strenuous that no interpreter should work for more than 30 minutes in one go. This means that simultaneous interpreters always work in teams of two, or, depending on the length of the conference and the complexity of the topic, three colleagues.
